Stats listed here are for Greater Manchester.
We unfortunately do not have the figures for 2002/03 at this time, however some facts from 2000/01 are listed below

GMP dealt with 17,500 incidents per 100 officers which makes it the busiest in the country. Busier than even the Met in London. It covers almost 500 square miles and 10 local authorities.

There were 12,500 fewer crimes. A total reduction of 3.6 percent

Between April 98 and September 2000 there were 44 murders, 89 attempted murders, 2,574 serious woundings and 32,054 less serious woundings in the category of violence and crimes involving firearms in Manchester, (source; home office paper - crime reduction research paper 13) although it is important to note these figures are for the whole of Greater Manchester Police.
